Buyer Protection Policy
The short version
- Paid through Slabsta? You are covered if your comic does not arrive, is significantly not as described, is a counterfeit or tampered slab, or is damaged in transit.
- Report a problem in the app within 2 days after delivery and before you confirm receipt. The seller's payout is held while we review.
- Not covered: buyer's remorse, raw-grade disagreements within the described condition, and anything paid off-platform.
- Approved claims get a full or partial refund to your original payment method.
This summary is for convenience; the full text below controls.
How it works
Your payment is held and is not transferred to the seller until you confirm receipt or until 2 days after carrier-confirmed delivery with no claim. The Buyer Protection fee (8% of the item price + $0.99) pays for this review and refund program. This policy is part of our Terms of Service; it is a service of Slabsta, not insurance.
What is covered
- Item not received: tracking does not show delivery, shows delivery to the wrong address, or the seller never ships (orders without tracking in 5 days are cancelled and refunded automatically).
- Significantly not as described: wrong title, issue, variant or printing; undisclosed restoration, missing pages or major defects; a different grade, grading company, label type or certification number than listed; a raw book materially worse than described or shown.
- Counterfeit or tampered slab: a fake or altered holder or label, a resealed or opened slab not disclosed, a book that does not match the certification, or a counterfeit or unauthorized reproduction.
- Damaged in transit: the item arrives damaged because of shipping, including cracked holders and bent or crushed books.
Claim window
Open a claim in the app (Purchases → Report a problem) within 2 days after the carrier shows delivery, and before you confirm receipt. For items not received, open a claim once tracking shows no movement for 7 days or delivery is overdue by 5 days, and in any case within 30 days of purchase. Confirming receipt ends the window. Keep all packaging until the claim is resolved.
What is not covered
- Buyer's remorse, changing your mind, or finding a lower price elsewhere.
- Differences of opinion on raw grade when the book matches the listing description and photos.
- Defects disclosed in the listing or clearly visible in photos.
- Items you damaged, altered, cracked out of a slab or submitted for regrading after delivery.
- Purchases paid outside Slabsta, or items not purchased on Slabsta.
- Claims opened after the window, or after confirming receipt.
- Package theft after carrier-confirmed delivery to the correct address (contact the carrier and local authorities; we will review signature-confirmed cases individually).
- Disagreement with automated identifications or price estimates.
- Claims involving fraud, abuse or false evidence.
The refund process
- 1. Report. Describe the problem and upload clear photos (packaging, item, label and cert number, damage).
- 2. Hold. The seller's payout is placed on hold and the seller is notified and may respond.
- 3. Review. Our team reviews tracking, listing, photos and messages, usually within 3 business days. We may ask for more information.
- 4. Return if required. We may require you to return the item, with tracking, within 5 days. Return postage is charged to the seller when the seller is at fault.
- 5. Outcome. Full refund (item, shipping and Buyer Protection fee), partial refund, or release of funds to the seller. Refunds go to your original payment method through Stripe and typically appear in 5–10 business days.
Chargebacks and fair use
Please use Buyer Protection before contacting your card issuer. If you file a chargeback while a claim is open, we may close the claim and follow the card network process instead. Abuse of Buyer Protection may lead to account limits or suspension. Nothing in this policy limits rights you have under law.
